Life isn't about things. Do you ask yourself why? Because as humans, connection matters more. If you focus on family, relationships, love, friendship, and experiences, these tend to bring longer and lasting fulfillment.
You have to keep the right perspective on possessions, or you'll be possessed by them. Because if you lose perspective, your possessions can start to control your time, emotions, and decisions. Realize that none of that will last. Jesus said: "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” (Luke 12:15).
Never judge your worth by your net worth. Why? Because money is unstable; it usually ignores your deeper qualities like integrity, love, creativity, wisdom, etc. Instead, we must measure ourselves by our character: be honest, treat people with high esteem, and be a better version of yourself. Never think your worth is related to your possessions. Realize that the greatest things in life aren't things.
The Word of God says: “For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.” (1 Timothy 6:7). The best way to remember that your life isn't about things is to build your life on eternal priorities. Focus on what will last forever. All possessions are temporary, so don't center your life around acquiring them.
You have a choice to make. The world tells you that you need to have more to be happier, more successful, more important, more valuable, and more secure. What is the alternative? Focus on lasting relationships and learning to love God and love others. “And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.” (1 John 4:21, ESV).
You have to decide whether you'll listen to what others say or to God. Will you listen to culture or to Christ? Will you listen to the world or to the Word of God? What is my main purpose in life?
The secret to contentment is finding your security and satisfaction not in what you have, but in who you belong to. You find it in Christ.“As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.” (Psalm 17:15).
